Intention

The intention of this digital collage is to raise awareness and deepen understanding of the emotional and psychological struggles faced by individuals with depression. By visually portraying the overwhelming thoughts, isolation, and distress they experience, the artwork encourages empathy and recognition of the hidden battles many endure.

The use of powerful imagery, dark tones, and impactful words reinforces the severity of depression, challenging the stigma surrounding mental health. This piece serves as a visual representation of an internal struggle, aiming to spark important conversations, promote awareness, and encourage support for those who may be suffering in silence.

Creative Process

Emotion: It is the central of my collage as it vividly expresses feelings of depression, isolation and inner turmoil. The distressed images, chaotic scribbles, and bold words like “drowning” and “save me from myself” evoke strong emotional responses, making the viewer empathize and understand the struggles of a person with mental health.

Contrast: This enhances my message by using various visual elements. The fake smile and taped lips contrasts with dark, chaotic textures which symbolizes the hidden pain behind a happy façade. The mix of bold and broken text, shattered glass and overlapping images enhances the internal conflict of the struggles that people with depression face.

Theme: The use of theme in my collage directly address mental health awareness. As the visual elements and text used reinforce the struggles of depression, which viewers can comprehend. By creating and using different images, colors and elements, this describes my intention and core ideas.

This digital collage captures the hidden struggles of depression by visually representing the overwhelming thoughts, emotions, and isolation experienced by individuals facing this mental health condition. Using fragmented imagery, dark tones, and impactful words, it illustrates the consuming nature of depression, where negative thoughts spiral, leading to feelings of worthlessness, helplessness, and even suicidal ideation.

By incorporating symbolic elements such as cracks, masks, and distressing phrases, the artwork conveys the internal turmoil that often remains unseen. The piece serves as a powerful visual narrative that brings attention to the reality of depression beyond surface-level perceptions.
