SGeco Pod

To foster the growth of Singapore's eco-tourism sector and enhance the appeal of off-the-grid vacation experiences, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has designated a parcel of land at Hampstead Gardens for the development of a sustainability-focused and cyclist-friendly staycation experience. This unique establishment will consist of seven modular cabins resembling shipping containers, referred to as "pods."

Among these, six pods will serve as accommodation rooms, while the remaining single pod will house various services, including but not limited to reception facilities, food and beverage outlets, retail spaces, and leisure activities areas. 

My task is to devise and propose environmentally conscious designs for both the pods and the entire site within the specified plot of land.

My design focuses on creating a harmonious and immersive retreat experience by integrating aesthetic, functional, and placemaking principles. The overall concept is inspired by nature, as reflected in the earthy tones, greenery and organic textures from the mood board, creating a calming and welcoming atmosphere. 

Spatial planning is guided by adjacency and bubble diagrams to ensure logical and convenient movement between spaces, enhancing wayfinding and user comfort. The accommodation and service pods are designed for compact efficiency, with clear zoning for private, semi-private, and public functions. 

Rendered visuals present realistic material palettes and furniture layouts, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and technical feasibility. Wayfinding is facilitated through intuitive spatial organization, while the outdoor site plan promotes interaction with nature via walking trails, bicycle paths and communal areas. Creative solutions, such as integrating plants into both indoor and outdoor spaces, strengthen the sense of place and promote well-being. The final output balances beauty, functionality, and a strong connection to the surrounding environment.
